Baby Doll

On Saturday night, we were invited to a party hosted by a couple from our church. The husband was graduating from medical school, so they were celebrating with some people from his school and from church. It started at 6:30, and we had a great time. There was a lot of food, a lot of little kids running around, and they even ordered "the fight" on pay-per-view. (We're not in to boxing, but we thought it was entertaining).

Since Sophie likes to go to bed at 7, she naturally became a little restless at about 7:30. I took her to one of the kids' bedrooms, and found a toddler bed. It had rails on 3 sides, so I padded all 4 edges with pillows to create a crib. She was pretty tired, so I wasn't worried about her trying to roll off or anything. I gave her a blanket, sang her a song, and then left her alone to fall alseep. As I was leaving the room, I passed by some girls running down the hall, so I asked them to stay out of that room, and showed them the sleeping baby.

I checked on her about 10 minutes later, and she was sleeping peacefully. Jake and I alternated checking on her about every 10-15 minutes, and all was well.

After she had been asleep for about an hour, I went in again to check on her. To my surprise, I noticed that her door had been closed completely. I thought that was a good thing, so that no one would disturb her. I opened the door, and saw 2 little girls hovering over Sophie's bed (different girls than before). One of them was cradling a large doll or stuffed animal in her arms-it was about 1/2 her size. As my eyes adjusted better to the dark, I noticed that the stuffed animal had on the exact same pair of pajamas that Sophie had on.

This little 4-year-old girl was HOLDING Sophie.

Girl: Oh, hi (sets Sophie back on the bed). We were taking care of her.
Me: (in complete shock, but trying to act cool) Uh-huh.
Girl: She was afraid of the dark.
Me: (Thinking to myself, no, she was asleep in the dark) OK. Thanks.

So I picked up Sophie, who was just taking all of this in, and took her back to the main room. The whole time I was just thinking that it's a good thing she was so sleepy. What if she had gotten scared or uncomfortable, and arched her back or flailed her arms while the girl was holding her? What if she was too heavy and the girl let her slip out of her arms?

Needless to say, she spent the rest of the evening hanging out with us, and then fell asleep on the car ride home. Quite the excitement for our little baby doll.

what an adventure for little sophie. when gracie was super little, lots of people would take off places and i would have no idea where she was. it all worked out for the best. she will go to anyone, but maybe we should start teaching her about "strangers."

No more parties for Sophie. She is just too popular.

That is too funny...good thing it was no longer than 10-15 minutes, right?
