My Abusive Relationship

I never understood why women stayed in abusive relationships until I married a man that elbows me in the face in his sleep nightly. I still love him despite the bruises. "Love Bruises", he calls them.

The Home Stretch

Well, the number of weeks left until my due date has officially entered the single digits. I have 9 weeks (and 5 days) left until Baby Girl is scheduled to arrive. By the time we move back into our house in Tucson, it'll be 6 weeks, 3 days. It's so crazy to think that I was counting the weeks when I was less than 6 weeks along, and now the (time)tables have turned.

My pre-baby project list is quite extensive, but one of my top résumé items is that "I thoroughly enjoy taking on and completing large tasks". I'm a project person. I love everything I'm working on, and can't wait to see further progress in each of them. (of course, pictures of projects and final products will be posted as they are taken on).

When I think of having a baby, I always just try to imagine what life will be like with a baby in the house, I never think about what the delivery will be like. It's not that I'm avoiding thinking of the delivery. To me, it's like getting married. Some girls focus solely on getting to wear a big fancy dress and having a party dedicated to them. Others focus on what marriage will be like, and whether or not they are prepared for an eternal committment. I loved planning my wedding (again - a project) but I wasn't focused on that day alone. The same thing applies here.

These are just some thoughts I had today.

A Love-Hate Relationship

I can't think of anything to write about, so I thought I'd make a list of things I love and hate as of today. I know that "love" and "hate" are strong words, but I am using them here even though many things on this list may be temporary. Like/Dislike may be better, but they don’t flow nicely in list format.

I LOVE:
  • my zipperless/buttonless wardrobe
  • my belly
  • swimming
  • my short hair
  • my husband (not temporary)
  • craigslist
  • shrimp tacos
  • baby kicks
  • HGTV
  • planning a bunch of really cool projects to work on and actually working on some of them

I HATE:

  • looking at the scale, knowing I still have 2 more months of weight gain to go
  • listening to/watching people talk with their mouth full
  • daily afternoon backaches
  • insurance
  • random nausea
  • charlie horses

The Cat was Almost Let Out of the Bag

Jake came home from work yesterday with a bag from Last Chance. He had purchased some decor for our baby's nursery. When he pulled it out of the bag, he showed it to me and said "I got these for _________'s room", right in front of my mom. I stared at him to see if he realized what he had done, and he had, so he casually re-said his sentence, "I got these for Baby's room".

My mom's head was in the fridge during the whole conversation, and she didn't flinch when Jake said it, so we weren't sure if she heard and was just playing cool, or if she missed it completely due to the sounds of the fridge motor.

We decided that if she did hear, we'd just let the name go out into the open, but if not, our little game was still on. I approached her and asked if she heard, and she was completely shocked and disappointed that she hadn't. She was 3 feet away from it, but didn't catch it. Silly fridge.

Sorry everyone! Guess you'll just have to wait another 11 weeks.

A San Francisco Treat

Thanks to the wedding of a brother-in-law, Jake and I got to spend the 4th of July weekend in San Francisco. We enjoyed great food and great sites, and we really enjoyed our long weekend off of work.

Note to self for future trips to San Francisco: Do not drive through the Italian District just as Italy wins its soccer game again. It will be really loud and crowded. It's a good thing Jake looks Italian, or we may have had some problems.

Here are some of the highlights from the rest of the trip.

We drove up a bridge leading into heaven.

We visited the Golden Gate Bridge.
Jake played frisbee at a park with his brother and dad.
We drove down the coast and visited the beaches.
We saw a lot of beautiful flowers.
We found some sunbathing turtles.

And we found this little guy checking us out
as we walked through Golden Gate Park.
We had a very fun and relaxing time. It was great to spend time in a big city. Our next vacation will include a baby and all the gear babies like to tow around with them, so we were very grateful for this trip!
